ICTP Colloquium May 17

ICTP is honored to welcome Professor Valérie Masson-Delmotte for an ICTP Colloquium on Thursday, 17 May at 16:30, 2018. The talk, "From water molecules to climate, making sense of Greenland and Antarctic ice core records," will take place in the Budinich Lecture Hall of ICTP's Leonardo Building, and will be livestreamed. Light refreshments will be available after the event.

Dr. Masson-Delmotte is a senior scientist from Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement, Institut Pierre Simon Laplace, at the Université Paris Saclay/CEA/CNRS in France. She is also the co-chair of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group I for the AR6 cycle, and is in Trieste for the IPCC Expert Meeting on Assessing Climate Information for Regions.

Her research covers both paleoclimate analyses of past changes in climate, as well as the atmospheric water cycle, using ice cores from Greenland, Antartica, and Tibet. Ice cores provide a wealth of insights into past climatic and environmental changes, and they will be one of the subjects of the Colloquium.

She has worked on issues such as the North Atlantic Oscillation, drought, climate response to volcanic eruptions, polar amplification, climate feedbacks, abrupt climate change and ice sheet vulnerability across different timescales. Dr. Masson-Delmotte is active in outreach for children and for the general public and has won many international awards.
