Applications are invited from outstanding young candidates of Indian nationality to work towards a Ph. D. in Theoretical Physics from the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, with certificate of participation awarded by the ICTP. The candidate will work in the emerging and frontier areas of nonequilibrium statistical physics of long-range interactions and stochastic thermodynamics. The certificate will be awarded under the condition that the candidate makes at least one research stay at ICTP during his/her training period.
The research work is expected to start no earlier than March 2019. During the research period, an opportunity of at least one stay at ICTP will be offered. In addition, the candidate will be eligible for ICTP's prestigious Sandwich Training and Education Programme (STEP).
The applicant will have the opportunity to be trained in the frontiers of nonequilibrium statistical physics and be exposed to an international and multidisciplinary environment. The research project will focus on investigating new universal features of nonequilibrium physics, in particular, of long-range interacting systems, and exploring their consequences for experimental systems (colloidal, biological and astrophysical).
Candidates should be below 28 years on the date of application. Applicants will be shortlisted on the basis of merit, excellence of academic record, and suitability for the proposed project as decided by the project supervisors.
The application deadline is 31 January 2019. More details can be found at http://physics.rkmvu.ac.in/international-phd-opportunity/
