ICTP's SciFabLab puts together a lot of great events throughout the year, and there's about to be another one: a hackathon 20-21 of October, 2018. Organized over 36 straight hours, the hackathon brings together people of all experiences and expertise to tackle problems and creatively use data together. In this case, NASA data.
The NASA Space Apps Challenge is a hackathon happening simultaneously in over 200 cities all over the world, organized with the goal to help collaboratively develop innovative solutions for global problems by producing open-source results to challenges that are relevant to both life on Earth and in space.
The Trieste event is organized and hosted by ICTP, with support and sponsorship of the United States Consulate General of Milan and support of the Comune di Trieste, the University of Trieste, and ProESOF.
Participation in the hackathon is completely free and open to all enthusiasts older than 18, no matter their background or nationality. The event starts Saturday morning at 8:30 AM and ends Sunday afternoon at 6:00 PM; many participants often work on their projects at night. The hackathon will be held at the ICTP Adriatico Guesthouse in the bay of Grignano (Trieste).
The maximum number of participants is set to 60, and participants can form working teams at the event or beforehand. There are many categories of challenges and no types of expertise are required, only enthusiasm.
