Ceremony for 2015 Dirac Medallists, and announcement of 2016 recipients, on 8 August
Physics Honours

What better way to mark the birthday of one of the greatest physicists in history than to host lectures in his honour by three of today's top physicists?

On Monday 8 August, ICTP continues its tradition of celebrating the birthday of Paul Adrien Maurice Dirac, one of the top physicists of the 20th century and a staunch friend of the Centre, with a set of lectures by the winners of its Dirac Medal. This year, the three winners of the 2015 Dirac Medal will receive their awards and deliver talks offering a glimpse into the high-level science they are pursuing.

In addition, the winner(s) of the 2016 Dirac Medal will be announced.

The ceremony and lectures start at 14:30 CET and will be held in ICTP's Budinich Lecture Hall; all are invited to attend. For those who cannot be there in person, the event will be livestreamed via ICTP's YouTube channel.

The 2015 Dirac Medal was awarded to Alexei Kitaev (California Institute of Technology),   Gregory W. Moore (Rutgers University), and Nicholas Read (Yale University) for their interdisciplinary contributions which introduced concepts of conformal field theory and non-abelian quasiparticle statistics in condensed matter systems and applications of these ideas to quantum computation.

The full programme of the ceremony including the abstracts of the Dirac lectures is available here (PDF).
