Neuroscience Honours

ICTP Research Staff Associate Yasser Roudi has been awarded the 2015 Eric Kandel Young Neuroscientists Prize for important contributions to the applications of statistical physics to network reconstruction and the understanding of information processing.

A faculty member at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience and Centre for Neural Computation (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway, Roudi is also an associate of ICTP's newly established Quantitative Life Sciences Section. He has collaborated with ICTP scientist Matteo Marsili and the two have co-authored papers on complex systems and neural data that appeared in the Journal of Statistical Mechanics. His research focus includes statistical inference in complex and non-equilibrium systems and disordered systems and neural networks.

Apart from the €75,000 in prize money (of which € 50,000 will be for the winner’s personal use and € 25,000 for setting up a collaborative partnership or mentoring relationship), the prize will give Roudi the opportunity to deliver the Eric Kandel Prize Lecture at the Forum of Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS). Established in 2010 by the Hertie Foundation in collaboration with FENS, the Kandel prize is given to outstanding young scientists in the field of neuroscience to help advance their careers as researchers. The ceremony was on 28 May 2015 at Paulskirche, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
