Nanotubes, nanoribbons, quantum dots: this is the language of
nanophysics--the study of physical phenomena at the nanoscale
level--which has become a distinct new sub-branch of physics and is
key to finding applications in the rapidly developing field of
nanotechnology.
ICTP's section on Condensed Matter and Statistical Physics used
its expertise in the field to collaborate with the Institute of
Physics of the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology and the
Asia Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics to host a Regional
School on Physics at the Nanoscale. The school, held in Hanoi in
December 2009, attracted some 60 participants from the Southeast
Asia region and covered theoretical and computational aspects of
nanophysics. For more details, visit the school's
website.
